Privacy policy

When you sign in we receive your email address and display name from our identity provider (signin.ounie.com). When you run a lookup we store the lookup record: the first name, last name and company domain you asked about, the optional company label, the address we returned, its verification status and confidence, the pattern it matched, how many candidates were tested, and the credit reservation and settlement.

This is the part that deserves saying plainly: a lookup is a question about someone who is not you. When you submit a name and a domain, you are asking us to process another person's personal data on your behalf, and the result we return is their business contact information.

We act as a processor for that request. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to look someone up and to contact them — a legitimate interest under the GDPR, or whatever applies where you and they are. We do not, and cannot, make that assessment for you.

We do not build a contact database out of your lookups. One account's results are never used to answer another account's question, and we do not sell, share, or publish addresses found through the service.

If an address of yours was returned by this service and you want the associated records deleted, write to us via the removal request form and we will remove them. You do not need an account to ask, and we will not require you to prove a lawful interest in your own data.

We do not track you across the web. There are no third-party analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, and no session replay. We do not use your lookups to train any model.

To answer a lookup, the name and domain are sent to the email-discovery provider behind our engine, which generates the candidate addresses and checks them against the receiving mail server. They receive the query only — never your name, email, or Ounie identity. Checking an address necessarily involves contacting the destination domain's mail exchanger.

Application data (lookup records, credit ledger entries) is stored in a Neon Postgres database hosted in the US.

Lookup records are kept so you can read past results back for free rather than paying twice. Ask us and we will delete your history; credit-ledger entries are retained where we are required to keep billing records.
